Policenauts 3do English Patch
Aug 23, 2009 - The fan-engineered English localization of Hideo Kojima's PSOne cult classic. The project's page today announced that the patch is live. Fair warning - Policenauts was a sci-fi adventure game produced for 3DO,. Policenauts (ポリスノーツ, Porisunōtsu) is a graphic adventure game with a hard science fiction storyline, written and directed by Hideo Kojima, and published by Konami.
What is Policenauts?
Policenauts is a spiritual sequel to Snatcher, the digital comic created by Hideo Kojima between Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. It was released in Japan for the PC98 in 1994, with console ports for the 3DO in 1995, and the PlayStation and Saturn in 1996. It features an entirely different setting, plot, and characters from Snatcher, but the two games do share some peripheral details. Its game system is a refined version of Snatcher's, with a point-and-click interface instead of scrolling through menus at the bottom of the screen; 'Look' and 'Investigate' have been combined into one command; and the shooting scenes feature arcade-style shooting, where you have full control over your aim, instead of a 3x3 grid.
When will the patch be released?
What are you talking about? It's already out! Go get it!
I'm stuck at the computer puzzle. What do I do?
Refer to the 'manual' file included in the patch zip, or grab it from the Manual section of the site (second file down)
Why is Jonathan a grammar idiot?
Because he's Jonathan. He doesn't get everything wrong, but he will say 'me and you', or 'can I..?' instead of 'may I..?', for example.
What do I do with the patch?
You first make images of your Policenauts discs with an ISO program, then individually apply the xdelta patches to each disc with another program. We will provide specific instructions on how to do this when the patches are released. (But it's extremely simple anyway).
Will there be patches for other versions?
Film serial jepang doctor x. Possibly, but we don't know when. The order for future patches would be: Saturn, PC98, 3DO.
What about other languages?
We are open to proposals from translation-programming teams regarding this.
Will you do an English dubbed version?
No. We couldn't provide anywhere near the level of quality that would be necessary to make it an enjoyable experience.
On what can I play the patch?
A PlayStation emulator or PlayStation hardware. We recommend hardware, if you can. We'll be providing tips for emulation at release.
Where can I find the game?
The game can be purchased from the following locations:
No compensation is received by any team member in exchange for providing these links.
Where can I find a ROM of the game?
You mean ISOs of the game? Not from us! We do not endorse piracy. See the above question and answer.
I heard there are three versions of the PlayStation version of Policenauts. Is this true?
Yes, there's the original '96 release, the The Best re-release, and the PSone Books re-release. The patch will be compatible with all three versions.
Can I help in any way?
We aren't currently looking for assistance with any aspect of the project.
Do you accept donations?
We do not accept monetary donations. The project is pure fan work. However, if you go all stalker on us and obtain our addresses and send us some sort of gift, we would not return it unless it were money (or maybe a couple other things).
In 2009, a team of fans released an English translation for cult Hideo Kojima joint Policenauts, which was never officially released in the West. Now, in 2016, fans have released an English language translation for the superior Sega Saturn version of the game.

See, the original translation was for the PS1 version, which is fine, but the Saturn version is normally regarded as being a little bit better, since it had some extra content, as well as arguably better pixel art.

Policenauts Emulation
ReadSo if you haven’t yet tried the game via the PS1 translation, now’s a good time to maybe check it out. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned adventure game, but the art is incredible, and Kojima’s story-telling—which can get away from him in Metal Gear games—is more at ease in a genre that’s almost nothing but writing.
You can get the patch (or at least check out the notes) here. Note that this obviously only covers written translation; audio files remain in the original Japanese.
